Smokers in Cebu City face stiffer fines - THE Cebu City Anti-Smoking Ordinance was passed a decade ago, but its implementation remains lax.This is why the City Council amended the ordinance to raise penalties to P2,000 to P4,000 from just P100 to P500.
The Cebu City Anti-Smoking Ordinance is trying to encourage people to stop smoking by showing them what happens to the body when a person smokes.
The task force unveiled the tarpaulin of a smoker’s body.
According to the tarpaulin, smokers go bald because smoking causes hair loss. A smoker may also develop cataracts, wrinkles, hearing loss, tooth decay and worse, cancer.
City Ordinance 2241 consolidated previous ordinances related to smoking, among which are the ban on smoking inside public utility vehicles and public places.
