Camotes to have terminal and airplane hangar soon

Camotes Island as an iconic destination of Cebu, Durano recently passed House Bill 2668 also known as “An Act Providing for the Rehabilitation, Improvement and Modernization of the Camotes Airport in the town of San Francisco, Cebu.” Camotes Island, located northeast of Cebu, was chosen by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Central Visayas as the “new iconic product” in the region as it boasts of a fresh water lake, white sand beaches and caves among others. As an iconic product, Camotes is among the priority destinations of the DOT that already benefited from the assistance of the tourism department.

CEBU, Philippines - After paving a 1.2-kilometer runway in the town of San Francisco, Camotes Island, the Cebu provincial government is also planning to construct a terminal building and an airplane hangar in the same island.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia met yesterday with Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority general manager Nigel Paul Villarete to further discuss her plan to construct an airport in Camotes Island, as well as in Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island.
Garcia said the Capitol has already appropriated a budget for the project, whose runway has already been planned by the engineering department.
The provincial government is also coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines about the project.
“We shall be writing formally to the board of the MCIAA to inform them as regards to the intention of Cebu to construct, operate, and maintain an airport in Camotes as well as Bantayan,” she said.
Garcia said they will start the construction most probably before the year ends, especially that there are no longer any property issues on the 22-hectare land now owned by the Capitol unlike in Bantayan, where they still have to iron out lot ownership issues.
The governor said she is set to go to Sta. Fe to settle the issue.
“We already have an inventory of all the property owners through which the existing airstrip traverses and I intend to meet with them and to apprise them of the plans of the province,” she said.

Aside from the needed papers for the construction, Garcia said the bill drafted earlier by fifth district representative Ramon “Red” Durano IV has already been passed to the Lower House.
“Kumpleto na sa tanang tax declaration, wa nay mga concerns. Just a matter of formally informing the MCIA authority and the CAAP,” the governor said.
The budget allocated for the construction of the airports was taken from the annual budget of the Capitol. Next year, Capitol will appropriate another P25 million budget each for the construction of the airports in both islands.
To further push Camotes Island as an iconic destination of Cebu, Durano recently passed House Bill 2668 also known as “An Act Providing for the Rehabilitation, Improvement and Modernization of the Camotes Airport in the town of San Francisco, Cebu.”
With the said bill, Durano pushes for the rehabilitation of the Camotes airport to accommodate big aircrafts under the supervision of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Garcia said the construction of the airport in the islands is really a need.
“You know very well that there’s an upsurge of tourists in Camotes and there are times when it would not be feasible to go by sea so mas maayo jud nang duna tay air support,” Garcia said.
Camotes Island, located northeast of Cebu, was chosen by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Central Visayas as the “new iconic product” in the region as it boasts of a fresh water lake, white sand beaches and caves among others.
As an iconic product, Camotes is among the priority destinations of the DOT that already benefited from the assistance of the tourismdepartment.
However, the issue on transportation accessibility is one of the main problems, why Camotes cannot take off as a major island destination of Cebu.     - (THE FREEMAN)

Liloan Surprises!

One of the amazing things about Cebu is that although it is too small (it’s even smaller than a dot on the world map,) it is packed with so much good stuff. Everything that you can think of is right here. And just when you thought that you’ve seen it all, you find out that you haven’t actually seen anything yet.
Just last Saturday, I got the chance to visit one of the most awesome places in Cebu right now. I went there expecting very little. Well, I’ve been to Liloan a gazillion times and I’m sure that I’ve seen almost all interesting parts of it. But I guess I have the right to change my mind, right? Hehehe. Well, I was just a little surprised! Okay, I was shocked! I didn’t expect that Liloan could pull out something as surprising as this! Well, enough of this nonsense! On with the photos! Haha!

Compostela’s Green Lagoon

I’ve heard so much about Green Lagoon Park in Canamucan in the town of Compostela. They say that it’s a beach resort with a pool and various amenities. I never really got interested, though, because the resort, when viewed from the highway, seemed like a cheap getaway built right smack in the middle of a mangrove forest. Haha. Also, whenever I travel up North, my usual pit stop are Liloan and Danao. Incidentally, my uncles and cousins decided to go to Compostela over the weekend for a little excursion. I was originally against the idea of going to Green Lagoon but they all won me over (simply because they were paying. Hahaha).
Anyway, I’m glad that I went because I was finally able to see the place for my self. And considering that I had negative impression of the place, I must say that the place wasn’t shabby at all. In fact, I liked the place. So, here are some photos of the resort. If you’ve been to Green Lagoon park, tell us what you think!

White Sands

White Sands

A few weeks ago, I was finally able to visit Cebu White Sands in Maribago in the Island of Mactan.  For those of you who didn’t already know, Cebu White Sands at Maribago Beach was one of the most well-known resorts in Mactan. Before the arrival of high-end and modern resorts like Shangri-la, Plantation Bay, and Imperial Palace Waterpark, Cebu White Sands was one of the hottest destinations in the island. In fact, it was one-third of the super-popular resort trio in the Maribago area (which also consisted of Tambuli and Bluewater.)
Today, fortunately, despite the changing tastes of visitors and the ever-evolving line up of players in the local tourism industry, the resort still attracts a good number of tourists.

Secrets of the City

Secrets of the City

The island of Cebu is truly blessed. It has a thriving metropolis, impressive cultural and heritage sites, rich marine resources, and unspoiled natural wonders. According to one Austrian I know, Cebu is perfect. He said that when you are in Cebu, everything is within reach. In the morning, you can go scuba-diving and in the afternoon, you can go mountain trekking. Then, in the evening, you can go to the city and watch a movie on Imax or head to a club and party the night away.
Most of the natural spots in Cebu are just a couple of hours away from the city. The famous Kawasan Falls in Badian, for example, is only three hours away. And the Mantayupan Falls in Barili is only two hours away. To get to both Aguinid and Inambakan Falls, you only need to travel for three hours. And you only need an hour to get to that beautiful waterfalls below. Yes, you heard it right. That’s how close it is to Cebu City. In fact, to be technical about it, the falls IS in Cebu City. Bet you didn’t know that!

J Centre Mall is the newest mall in Cebu. chick this

J Centre Mall is the newest mall in Cebu. It is located along A. S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City. If my sources are right, the mall is just one-third of a huge complex which would also include a hotel tower and a condominium tower in the coming years.
The construction of the complex was one of the many amazing projects that surprised Cebuanos in 2009. Also, the project’s completion is a solid testament to the steady rise of our local developers. Here’s hoping that more local developers get to showcase their ‘talents’ in the future for a better and more beautiful Cebu!
